Trackless Pivot FAQ — Moenave Garage Doors

The System

How it works and what makes it different.

What is a Trackless Pivot Garage Door? +

A Trackless Pivot Garage Door converts standard sectional garage door panels into a single one-piece door that pivots outward and upward as one unit.

Instead of rolling along ceiling tracks like a traditional garage door, the door rotates on a pivot system mounted to the sides of the opening. This eliminates bulky overhead tracks inside the garage and creates a cleaner, more modern look.

What makes this different from a standard sectional door system? +

A standard sectional door moves on an overhead track with a ceiling-mounted motor — the entire mechanism lives above you and takes up significant space. The Trackless Pivot System eliminates both the track and the ceiling motor entirely.

The door locks into a single rigid piece and rotates open from wall-mounted hardware. The result is a completely clear ceiling, fewer moving parts, and nothing wearing out above your head.

How far does the door swing out when opening? +

Because the door pivots from the sides, it swings partially outward as it opens. As a general rule, about half the door height swings outward and half swings inward.

Example: an 8 ft tall door swings about 4 ft outward and 4 ft inward during opening. The door sits in the opening and takes up roughly 6 inches of space inside the opening when open.

How much weight does the hardware add to the door? +

The hardware system adds approximately 70 lbs to an 8 ft door. This is accounted for in the 500 lb maximum door weight capacity. Your installer will factor this into the torsion spring calculation when sourcing springs for your project.

How does the door seal without tracks? +

The system uses a combination of side brush seals and a bottom weather seal to close the gaps between the door and the opening. These seals reduce wind, dust, light infiltration, and weather exposure.

Does standard vinyl weather seal work with the system? +

Yes. Standard vinyl bottom weather seal is compatible. The system also uses side brush seals to close the gap on either side of the door.

Can I add wood cladding or a custom finish to the door? +

Yes. A common approach is to use a triple-layer insulated flush steel door as the structural base and apply vertical wood cladding on top after installation. The cladding installs over the door surface and doesn't interfere with the hardware mounting.

The door is installed first, then the cladding is applied — boards run full length without being cut for each panel section, since the door operates as one piece.

Is the system hurricane rated or wind rated? +

The Trackless Pivot Hardware System itself is not currently tested or certified for hurricane or high-wind building code requirements such as Miami-Dade approvals.

Wind performance largely depends on the garage door panels used, which must meet local building code requirements. If your project requires hurricane-rated or high-wind doors, work with a local garage door supplier to source panels that meet your region's codes.

Compatibility & Requirements

Panel specs, opening dimensions, headroom, and openers.

What type of garage door panels work with the system? +

The system works with most triple-layer insulated sectional garage door panels between 2.0″ and 2.5″ thick with a flat interior face. Panels with external ribbing on the interior face are not compatible — for example, the WD 9100 and 9605 series will not work with this system.

Compatible panel types include:

  • Flush steel doors
  • Composite overlay doors
  • Aluminum glass doors
  • Most woodgrain plank styles

If you're unsure whether your panels qualify, contact us with the door manufacturer and model number before ordering.

What sizes are currently supported? +

The current Trackless Pivot System supports:

  • 8–18 ft wide
  • 7–10 ft tall
  • 500 lbs total door weight
  • Requires 6″ of opening clearance when fully open — an 8 ft door has 7 ft 6 in of clearance while open

Larger systems may be possible in the future as we continue to develop the platform.

What headroom and floor-to-ceiling height do I need? +

The system requires 12 inches of headroom above the opening to accommodate the torsion spring assembly and allow the top of the door to arc up and in as it opens.

Floor-to-ceiling height needs to be at least 95 inches for a 7 ft door. This requirement is consistent across all supported door heights (7–10 ft).

If you're in new construction, share this with your framer now — it's simple to accommodate at the framing stage and difficult to fix after the fact.
What opening width do I need? +

The finished opening width needs to be 2 inches wider than the door panels. For example, a 16 ft wide door requires an opening size of 16 ft 2 in. Height stays standard — the door sits in the opening at the same height as a traditional door when closed.

Can I retrofit my existing door panels? +

Yes and no. While your current panels may be the right thickness and style to work with our hardware, most existing panels are sized to match your opening width — which means they're likely wider than the 2 inch clearance this system requires. Using them would require cutting the panels down, which most customers prefer to avoid. The more common approach is to have new panels made to the correct size.

What garage door openers are compatible? +

Our kit is designed to work with the LiftMaster 98022 jackshaft operator. The kit includes dedicated mounting hardware, drive sprocket, chain, and slide lock components sized for the 98022.

We have not tested the 98032 motor with our system, and that motor would require different mounting hardware not included in the kit. If you're planning to use a different opener, contact us before ordering.

What framing is required? +

Most new construction garages can accommodate the Trackless Pivot System with standard garage door framing. We recommend:

  • Solid side framing
  • Proper header sizing for the opening
  • Square door openings
  • 12″ of headroom above the opening

Is this a stock product or is each kit custom-built? +

Every system is built to order based on your confirmed door dimensions, panel weight, and opening configuration. There is no off-the-shelf version. We confirm all specifications with you before fabrication begins.

What is the lead time from order to delivery? +

Fabrication runs approximately 3–4 weeks from confirmed order. Freight shipping adds 3–7 business days depending on your location. From order to delivered kit, plan for roughly 5–6 weeks, though many projects run faster. We'll provide a specific timeline when your order is confirmed.

Installation

Who installs it, what they need, and how the process works.

Do you install these doors outside of Utah? +

Moenave Garage Doors is based in Southern Utah, where we provide full sales, installation, and service. For customers outside Utah, we ship our Trackless Pivot Hardware Systems nationwide so they can be installed by a qualified garage door professional.

We currently do not install doors outside of Southern Utah. Use the dealer map to find a company near you: moenave.com/dealers

Who should install this system? +

This is a custom install best suited for garage door companies that already do specialty and custom work — not a standard door swap. The right installer will be comfortable working through detailed documentation and has experience with non-standard garage door configurations.

Every kit ships with a full installation manual. Our team is happy to answer questions over the phone

Can I install it myself? +

We recommend professional installation by a licensed garage door company experienced in custom work. The system involves torsion springs under significant tension, which require professional handling. An experienced installer familiar with the documentation can typically complete the install in a single day.

What does my installer need to source locally? +

For projects outside Utah, your installer will need to source:

  • Garage door panels — triple-layer insulated, 2.0″–2.5″ thick, flat interior face
  • Door struts — to reinforce panels for one-piece operation
  • High-cycle torsion springs, shaft, and coupler
  • LiftMaster 98022 jackshaft motor

These are standard components that most garage door companies stock or can readily order. We include a complete sourcing guide with every kit. Find a dealer near you.

Geography & Dealers

Where we ship, how to find an installer, and special applications.

Do you ship complete garage doors or only the hardware? +

For projects outside Utah we ship hardware kits only. Customers source garage door panels locally through a garage door dealer or supplier. Our hardware system converts those panels into a one-piece pivot door.

This allows panels to meet your local building codes and greatly reduces shipping costs. Your installer can source panels at better pricing locally and has a local contact if a panel ever needs to be replaced down the road.

How do I find a qualified installer in my area? +

Use the dealer map at moenave.com/dealers to find companies near you that are familiar with this system. If there isn't a dealer listed in your specific area, contact us — we can often refer you to a company that has expressed interest in the system or has already installed one nearby.

Do you ship to Canada? +

Yes, we ship to Canada. Shipping cost is quoted separately — contact us for a freight estimate to your location before ordering.

Does this work on barn or barndominium builds? +

Yes. The system works well in barn and barndominium applications as long as the opening meets the standard requirements — 12 inches of headroom above the opening, flat interior framing, and compatible door panels. Many barn builds use flush steel or glass panels that work well with this system.

Does this work with taller RV doors on the same property? +

The Trackless system supports doors up to 10 ft tall. For taller openings — an RV bay, for example — a traditional tracked system can run alongside it on the same property. Because both use the same door panel manufacturers and finish options, the exterior appearance stays consistent. From the street, the doors match. The difference is only visible from the inside.
